Contrary to some beliefs, Cherry Shrimp do not consume fish poop. While they are known to be omnivores and notorious bottom feeders, fish waste doesn’t fall within their dietary spectrum. Cherry Shrimp primarily depend on biofilm, algae, decaying plant matter, and commercial shrimp food for sustenance.
Fish poop isn’t beneficial or healthy for them, contrary to the nutrients found in their staple food sources. Theese shrimp are beneficial cleaning crews in any aquatic ecosystem, consuming decomposing organics before they can produce harmful waste levels. But for healthy shrimp, proper food sources should be provided beyond just counting on what they can scavenge.
